A retired 83 year-old steelworker has won the largest jackpot in the 30 year history of Resorts in Atlantic City a spokesman told.

Robert M. Schaeffer, an 83-year-old widower from Temple, in Berks County, was coming to the end of his evening and down to his last few dollars when he tried his luck on a Video Megabucks machine at Resorts Atlantic City on Sunday.

Playing at the casino with two friends, he suddenly saw five eagles line up in front of his eyes, meaning he had won the biggest possible casino jackpot.  Mr Schaeffer said:  "I didn't want to believe it, but it said, 'Call attendant.'  I never got that lucky before."

The big casino winner doesn’t plan to splash out with his huge winnings, preferring to help out his five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.  He went on to explain "I'm not going to splurge or do anything crazy, take a cruise or anything like that.  I did my travelling with my wife when she was alive. I'll use it to get my grandkids set up."
