Barkley Wants to Suspend his Casino Visits
2008-05-20

Charles Barkley, 45, has heard a number of criticisms and a civil complaint from the casino in Vegas. He owes Vegas Casino $400,000 and has now stated his intentions to stop gambling at least for a year or two.

In the interview on the pregame show on Turner Network Television before the Spurs-Hornets Game 7 of their Western Conference semifinal series, Barkley said this: "I gamble probably once every two or three weeks to a month. It's not like I'm going every day. It's not like I get up and look at the line in sporting events. I like to go to Vegas. It's a fun place, but you know what, I've got to stop gambling."

He has received a civil complaint from the Wynn Las Vegas Casino, after which he admitted he paid the resort.

"I am not going to gamble anymore," he said. "For right now, the next year or two, I'm not going to gamble."

Despite making a public promise to stop gambling, Barkley did not say he had any money issues and is doing it just as a precautionary measure.

"It was my fault. To me it's over with. This will never happen, but the bottom line is I'm just never going to gamble again," Barkley explains.
